Dry Stone Walling in the Lake District, UK
Holmescales is now offering a NEW event to our range of activities and our previous attempts at this have been a great success.
Why not learn the traditional, age old art of Dry Stone Walling with us here at Holmescales?
Come and create something that will still be here in many, many years to come!
Holmescales has 320 acres of farmland set in the glorious Lake District and have plenty of dry stone walls for you to hone your skills. This is a fully mobile activity so we can even travel to you - as long as you have a local farmer with a dry stone wall and lots of enthusiasm then that's all we need.
This is a great, traditional skill to learn and great as a team-building exercise or group activity - -
- Improving communication
- Organisational skills
- Planning skills
All the skills learnt can then be taken away and maybe even transferred into your own garden!
Our Dry Stone Walling instructors are very skilled in the art of walling and spend a great deal of time out in the Lake District countryside ensuring that all the walls are properly maintained. However, a good dry stone wall will easily last up to 100 years and in the long run is a cheaper option than fencing. This traditional art is something that you will see nationwide. Dry Stone Walls as well as hedgerows are one of the most commonly used boundaries for fields in England and create what we regard as the traditional pattern of fields and lanes.
This activity is a half day event and can be run as a standalone event or tied in with some of our other great activities to create a day of different activities to remember for a long time.
